Half a duck does not always cost half as much
At Hwa Yuan, the printed half costs $50 and the whole $90. At Hutong the two prices are $72 and $144. These comparisons concern the stated duck size, not a guaranteed number of portions.
Philippe Chow prints a serving estimate for its order. Peking Duck House's standalone price does not state a size. iDen's NYC signature-menu item is compared with a half from its pickup menu; the signature title itself does not print “whole”. Keeping the source channels and size labels intact avoids a misleading cheapest-whole-duck chart.
Peking duck and Cantonese roast duck
Peking duck is a Beijing preparation associated with carved skin and meat served with wraps and condiments. Cantonese roast duck belongs to the siu mei roast-meat tradition and uses a different seasoning and roasting approach. A menu selling roast duck with rice is not automatically selling Peking duck.

- Look for the named order: Peking duck, Beijing duck or 北京烤鸭.
- Read the accompaniments: crepes, pancakes, buns and sauces vary across these NYC menus.
- Check the second preparation: a soup or duck-rack choice may belong to a set, rather than every duck order.
Four questions before booking a duck dinner
- Does this branch require the duck to be reserved in advance?
- Is the quoted price a half, whole, fixed set or an order serving a stated number of guests?
- How many wraps are included, and what does an extra order cost?
- Is the published price for dine-in or pickup, and what service charges apply?
The preparation estimates above belong to the restaurants' menus. They do not describe current queues or guarantee a serving time.
